Louise Austin

Children's Author

Welcome

Dragons, vampires, emotion-sucking demons and too much homework. These are the sorts of scary things I like to write about. Picking up a book should be the start of a fantastic new adventure and one of my favourite sights is a kid frantically turning pages to find out what happens next, or recommending a book they’ve loved to a friend. Often the pages kids lean over to share with a classmate are the ones they’ve found funny and, in my view, you can never share too much laughter.

I love middle grade fiction and helping match kids with books they’ll enjoy, so on this page you’ll find my top book recommendations that are suitable for 8-12 year-olds and up (I don’t think we ever age out of quality children’s fiction), and you can also find out about my own writing. I love working with KS2 children, so head to the Author Visits section if you’d like to find out more about my creative writing workshops.

My debut book, Alex Abbott is [Un]Dead, is a highly-illustrated, funny diary-style adventure and publishes with the incredible Macmillan Children’s Books in April 2026.
