My Review

This high-energy story stars Silver, who is 10 ¼ and lives on a cruise ship. Her mum is deputy cruise director and is often busy, so Silver spends a lot of time with the cruise regulars, an eclectic group of retired holiday-makers she calls the Gang. But as the summer holidays begin, Silver is desperate to find a BFF her own age. When valuables owned by a young passenger’s family go missing, Silver sees the opportunity to impress her by turning detective and tracking down the thief.

The humour and visually interesting layout of this book will appeal to young readers, and the mystery will keep them turning the pages. The themes of loyalty, self-acceptance and true friendship are perfect for kids in Year 3 and 4, who will relate to aspects of Silver’s struggles themselves and they will adore Silver and the fabulous young-at-heart characters in the Gang. A heartwarming intergenerational delight that would make a great addition to your lower KS2 book corner.
