Dragonborn
My Review
Alex misses Dad and the fun they used to have running wild in the woods. Since his death, Mum has become overprotective and controls every minute of Alex’s day to keep her safe. Smothered and grieving, Alex’s frustration comes bursting out of her. As flames. Because Dad was a dragon and so is she. She’s whisked away to a secret island of dragon children to learn the skills she’ll need to thrive as a dragon. But relations between humans and dragons are tense and not everyone wants peace.
As a huge fan of both dragons and Struan Murray, I was so excited about this book and it was everything I’d hoped. I loved the physicality of the dragons, the exploration of Alex’s grief, the strong threads of friendship and loyalty, the vastness of the worldbuilding with rich history and geography and the incredible twists and turns of the plot. It’s beautifully written, exciting and magical. Middle grade fantasy fans will eat this up and ask for seconds.
