My Review

Ash has grown up at the Arctic research station where scientists have brought mammoths back using cloning technology. Her dad’s role caring for the herd doesn’t leave them much time together, and she longs to join him and earn her place as a mammoth rider herself. But just as she gets the chance to meet a rare white calf, poachers attack. Afraid for her new friend, Ash discovers the danger isn’t just from outside, someone from within the centre is threatening the continued existence of the mammoths, and it’s up to Ash to stand up for the herd.

Not only is this book beautiful, it also has clear print that makes it accessible to dyslexic and less confident readers. The story is compelling, with a child-centred adventure, plenty of gorgeous mammoths and a lot of heart. Kids who are Hannah Gold fans (and at my school there are plenty!) will absolutely fall in love with this book, so it’ll make a popular addition to your KS2 library.
