Millions
My Review
When a bag of cash falls from the sky, nine-year-old Damien thinks his prayers have been answered, literally. He wants to do good with the money, while older brother Anthony thinks they deserve a little fun, what with Mum having died and everything. But with only seventeen days until a currency change leaves the banknotes worthless, the race is on to spend the money.
The premise is fun and eye-catching, but this book is so much more than that. With dark humour, characters with real depth and quirky references, it is a heart-warming exploration of grief and loneliness, but told with hope and laughter, warmth and wonderful weirdness. This makes a great choice for reading aloud to older kids, as it has so much richness that adults will also enjoy.
